Definitely smaller than I expected but as I was only wanting treatments so this didn't matter. My friend booked a great deal online which only worked out to be £50 each for a facial and a massage each which was a really nice mid-week treat. I'd definitely go on a deal again but not sure I'd pay full price as some of the treatments are quite expensive. We also had lunch after in the restaurant upstairs which I'd definitely recommend.
This made my day. Honestly! The staff were nice and helpful. I actually loved how everything was in a small confined space. Made us feel like it was all there just for our personal use. So intimate. We enjoyed everything from using the facilities to the massage. The only thing that probably knocks off a point is that, we were fully awake for our massages and it seemed to be over too quickly. We were meant to have a 1 hour massage but it seemed more like 40-45 mins. And we didn't have the hot towel compress which was listed on our voucher. Despite that, everything else was so brilliant for us, we left happy, content and relaxed. And looking forward to our next visit. : )
Like a tiny cavern of happiness, the Spa at the Athenaeum is hidden away in the basement of this old school London hotel. Designed for pygmies or thin people, space is at a premium but the friendly staff and beautifully tranquil treatment room almost make up for it. I wouldn't go there to 'hang out' in the spa area but for a quick couple of treatments followed by a dip in jacuzzi, steam and sauna it's not a bad spot at all. My back massage was lovely, in a 'lot's of fragrant oils and stroke-age without too much pressure' kind of way rather than a 'vigorous deep tissue, will see my troubled back right for a month' kind of way but I didn't mind. Similarly, the facial relaxed me but didn't quite deliver the rigour needed to purge my skin of city badness. We went on a 2 for 1 offer and for 50 each this is really good value as you'd probably pay the same at some average high street salon and miss out on the gentle chanting music and the special feeling you get when you go into a posh place and the staff treat you nice.
