I booked a spa day with my Mum and sister and the Atlas was great. The massages we had were the best I've had, the therapist was amazing. It was a bit of a shame that the swimming pool and sauna were located seperately downstairs at the David Lloyd leisure centre, as we had to get changed to move from one to the other. But all in all, the actual massages were great and that was the main purpose of our visit.
I paid £60 for a 55 minute hot stone massage. I arrived at 5.50 for a 6.00pm appointment. The therapist arrived at 6.15pm. I advised the therapist of a shoulder operation from a year ago, but that I'd had lots of massages since and they had been fine. I said I was looking for practically no pressure, just gentle all over body. I wanted to relax, which is why I chose hot stones rather than a deep tissue massage. What followed however was a lot of pressure and prodding and manipulation, particularly of the shoulder area (which is exactly where I didnt want it). Every passing minute I just thought "It's OK, it's probably doing some good and she'll move onto another area soon". But no. I was beginning to wish I'd never mentioned the shoulder, as that was all she was doing. Eventually it stopped and I was asked to turn over, for literally about 30 seconds per leg and that was the end. There wasn't even any point me turning over. What happened to 'full' body. What followed was instructions to relax and then leave. No water was brought to me. I then got dressed, went to the relaxation room to get some water to find the jug empty. I then took the jug to the reception desk (where my therapist was now manning the desk). A few minutes later she brought a filled up jug into the relaxation room and left again. Would it have hurt for her to quickly pour a glass and pass it to me? I then quickly had some water and left. £60 worse off and annoyed. I have been taking painkillers ever since. I am sorry if this sounds like an angry rant. I like to write fair reviews. Infact, feel free to read my other reviews - for example the Bannatyne Spa, Fairfield Hall was just excellent.
I had a half spa day with my fiancé and we found it to be great value for £20 each we used the wet facilities as well as one treatment each and enjoyed the relaxation room and herbal tea and iced water, this was an amazing offer and I hope to take advantage of something similar in the future. I would recommend to any one to visit this location but next time I may be a devil and purchase two consecutive half days and be there longer.
