Arrived fine with my cousin booked a few months in advance. Reception staff were fine. Room mediocre. Swimming pool was not a great size, more than 4 people had to try and avoid each other, or would bump into them. Had the two course meal prepaid with the deal booked beforehand. We both decided to have the cheese and biscuits after the two course. The menu was worded in such a way, we didn't realise that we had to pay a further £9 each for cheese and biscuits, thought the menu stated just £3 extra. Queried this with the waiter, who was confrontational in front of other customers, which made us feel dreadful for asking. Then we nearly got back to our room and the Hotel Manager started saying that we should have understood the menu, once again confrontational and wouldn't listen to us his customer's. He was making us feel really stressed about it all. Quite honestly the customer service and experience is non existent in this Hotel. Would not recommend them, and would certainly not go back there again.
Great place for occasion. Went for friends birthday. Food amazing. Spa area lovely. Staff friendly. Only down side is having to wait to order food at spa desk..which struggled to help when more than one customer.
Twilight spa experience booked for a birthday gift, lovely way to relax and catch up. Plenty of different experiences, hot tub, crystal steam room, sauna, hydro pool, another steam room, lovely lounging areas.
Changing rooms need to be bigger, and staff could have been a little more helpful, not much info given despite explaining this was our first time. No one offered the glass of prosecco included in the experience, we had to go traipsing around in our robes to find someone to help with this.
Would go again
Charlton House is a lovely grand hotel decorated in shabby-chic style. We were upgraded to East Wing and absolutely loved the room, it was huge with a large bathroom and indoor balcony area. Very luxurious.
All staff were friendly and helpful at all times and we felt very welcome. The restaurant dinner and breakfast was nice and good service too.
The spa was lovely and very relaxing. Luckily it was quiet during the week however I'd expect it to feel a bit cramped when busy as the facilities, especially the changing area, are small. The lava shell massage was fab. Overall I'd highly recommend the hotel and the Exotic Spa package.
If you're not sure which spa package to book, it's worth noting that the lava shell/bamboo massages in the Exotic Spa Break usually last 30 minutes (the wraps are 45 mins). So you may want to consider the cheaper Heavenly Bliss package if you're happy with a 25/30 minute traditional massage.
