I booked an underarm wax. 5 mins before the appointment I called to say i would be 2-3 mins late, which they seems to be understanding about because I couldn't find parking. I was 1 minute late in the end. I then waited for 7 mins in a room that resembled a pensioners living room (net curtains included) with a pedicure chair, desk/ till, manicure station, and LOTS of shelves with random products on. There was even a woman in the pedicure chair, that was hit every time someone entered or exited the room. When the therapist came to meet me, she gave me a strict telling of about being late and that next time they will cancel my appointment. I let her know I was kept waiting but she was not interested and very snooty about it. I should have walked out at this point. I mean I wasn't so desperate to have a wax that it was worth her attitude.
The waxing room was small, narrow very hot and not relaxing. The bed was shoved against a wall. The wax pot was old and had old dried wax dribbling down the sides. The wax result it self was fine, I mean and underarm wax is not difficult but was more painful than it had to be because the therapist could not get a good grip on the strips for the second arm because the bed was next to a wall. I would never dare have a bikini wax if the therapist could not get to both sides freely…imagine! You need to adjust the way you wax depending on the direction the hair grows, and this set up does NOT let you! As far as I'm concerned this is basic salon etiquette and know-how and I'm quite shocked a proper therapist is prepared to work in these conditions.
When I went to pay I was left waiting for 10 mins while the 'reception' girl and some woman discussed a 'loyalty card' at length. (why anyone would go here enough to use a loyalty card is another question..) Finally they said "what are you waiting for" and i replied i would like to pay for an underarm wax. They said "£10" and I handed over the money, there was no "thanks" or "do you need a receipt"..nothing. The girl just put the money on the desk and went back to dealing with the loyalty car woman. I tried to get her attention but in the end I just had to walk out rather than waste any more time. I would never go back and quite frankly I'm insulted that they treat people like this. Yuck.
You will find Beauty Works the top of a flight of stairs off the Broadway and the treatment rooms spread over a few floors. I would recommend anyone with walking difficulties to contact them in advance to enquire about their facilities.
I had a Brazilian wax by Katie, who was absolutely lovely. She was probably the best waxer I've had. As it had been a while, I was slightly nervous about the 'breaking into a sweat' pain, but she cut the waxing strips down to minimise this. I highly recommend her and judging by the costs elsewhere, this is good value for money at £17.50 for two sessions.
The environment is simple, clean and nice, but I believe it is the people that work there that make a place memorable and that's why I'm going back.
A lovely little salon with excellent service. The Environ facial was fantastic, so much so that I will go back! The salon is clean and spacious making you feel relaxed and at ease.
I loved my facial at this salon in Crouch End. My therapist was professional and explained what she was doing. As I did not want make up (which was part of the offer) she gave me extra time during my facial. I will definitely recommend this salon.
