Saw some poor reviews before we booked our stay here but having stayed at another hallmark hotel which we enjoyed, we decided to risk it. Glad we did. Hotel staff where exceptionally friendly and helpful. Food was also very good (apart from the Tapas which we skipped). Only slight issues where the heat in our room (it was boiling hot in March even though we had radiator off and window open) and mediocre spa. For money though I have no complaints and would happily stay again. (I'd also recommend parking in the car park off the main road. The side road one was always full. I just wish the main road car park was better sign posted....)
When we arrived at the hotel we had a 4th floor room but the hotel only had a lift up to the 3rd floor so had to take the stairs to the forth, it was a good job we didn't have a lot of luggage and that we can easily manage stairs! On entering the room it was very small, wasn't the cleanest in terms of the bathroom and windows. Then we headed down to the spa as that's what we had come for, who let us know the included robes and slippers , with the package, should have been in our room, they weren't. A kind gentleman at reception helped us sort this. The spa itself; not the biggest changing facilities with only one small showering cubicle in. the swimming pool and jacuzzi was very cold, the aromatherapy room didn't have an 'aroma'...sweat maybe and the steam room was bright and very dirty so not very relaxing. On return to our room to shower and get ready for the evening our bath tub was bubbling up water and dirt from the drain which eventually went away on its own, the shower was not very powerful and drizzled out and the sink taps didn't work. the best bit about this hotel was the valentines 3 course dinner we had, great service, quick, restaurant staff were very kind and attentive. after dinner we went into the bar for cocktails which was brilliant. included in our package also we were supposed to of have tapas, not having had tapas before i didn't know what this was therefore asked reception who informed me that tapas was what you have before dinner at about 1730-1930, so i complained that we were not informed of this and that it was included in our package, the same kind gentleman at reception then sorted us out with olives and crisps, despite not being the full tapas at least we got something. on returning to our room late evening, it was freezing despite earlier in the evening asking reception about the heating' reception informed me heating is in house and all heating is turned on together and that it had been all day...it hadn't in our room. i phoned down to reception and again the same gentleman was kind enough and quick to run us up two electric heaters which were brilliant. unfortunately we must have stayed in bournemouth on the windiest and rainiest day of the year and did not get a wink of sleep due to the loud winds against ours window all night and the whistling entering through our bathroom window. the bathroom was supposed to be double glazed but even when in the bathroom, with the wind howling we could feel the gusts! the next morning down for breakfast, continental buffet was brilliant, nice warm food and a big variety and again staff very attentive. We did want to stay the second day in the spa/gym after checking out however after the uncleanliness of the spa yesterday and lack quality changing facilities i was very reluctant. luckily today was a complete change of weather and we were able to leave our car at the hotel and head down into town and go to the beach. was not impressed with this hotel and the hotel's website gives a completely wrong impression apart from the downstairs bar and breakfast. definitely not worth the money we paid and expected a lot more in terms of the spa and cleanliness of hotel generally. wouldn't stay there specifically for a spa break again, maybe as a b and b for a night on the town in bournemouth!
I went there for my girlfriends Birthday . At first it took me 20 minutes to find the room I am in, because there were no signs to navigate us. Then In the bath tub my girl found hair ... (poor cleaning) The next day we went to the SPA (where we had 1 hour treatment included in the price) and the guy from the desk said: " I am sorry but we haven't got any slots where you can go and have your treatment. " So it turned out that we wont have your "SPA" weekend... due to the fact that they "didn't have time for us" . Thanks a lot for embarrassing me in front of my girlfriend and for the "great" service :)
Staff was unfriendly and unhelpful at reception. We asked for robes, we were told they be delivered to our room, when we came back hours later, there were no robes in our room, and then reception being difficult to get some. On check out we have been given completely wrong information regarding local bus services. Breakfast buffet was disappointing, besides the basic range of English breakfast there was very limited option for a continental breakfast; the fruit salad was out of a tin, not freshly made and cheese was rationed/packed like in a hospital setting. In the sauna the wood beams to sit on were broken, so not able to use. In summary a disappointing experience for a 4 star hotel.
