Nigel originally trained as a P.E. teacher and tennis coach. His initial interest in the bio-mechanics of the body became more refined through yoga and tai chi practice. He was founder and director of Brockwell Lido yoga for 20+ years, and has trained many local teachers through Amrita School of Yoga. His exploration into movement, where optimum outcome from minimum effort became a guiding principle, has profoundly informed his body work. He has worked extensively in corporate environments, treating teams of staff as part of their well-being programmes. He is qualified in holistic massage and Thai/yoga massage therapies, and has more recently undertaken MA studies in dance movement psychotherapy, revealing how the physical state of our bodies is informed and influenced by our state of mind and how we show up in the world, and vice versa. Nigel is registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
Sports Massage and Reflexologist BTEC ITEC APTI SMA International Therapy Examination Council C10662 Sports Massage Association My journey as a bodyworker began in 2004. But it wasn’t until a couple of years later when I obtained my BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Sports Massage that things started to get interesting for me and ever since then I have continued to feed my hunger for knowledge with ongoing training and self study, all of which have enabled me to treat an increasingly wider range of musculoskeletal issues. Contrary to what some believe, sports massage is not solely the preserve of athletes and fitness fanatics. Many of my sports massage clients just lead very busy and stressful lives. So whilst many will seek sports massage for injury prevention or performance enhancement many others will use it to help them manage pain or tension resulting from their jobs and lifestyles. Another misconception of sports massage is that it's intrinsically painful. But the ‘no pain no gain’ approach is not one that I subscribe to. Whilst you may on occasion experience some discomfort, the overriding response should still be one that’s relaxed in nature as opposed to how you’d feel after going ten rounds with Mike Tyson! Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy are both specialised soft tissue modalities that along with joint mobilisation and stretching are integral to how I work. Additionally, depending on your symptoms and needs, a physical assessment and exercise therapy may be offered as part of your treatment. Besides my clinic work, I have a passion for teaching and over the years I have had the pleasure of training many new sports massage therapists and running my workshops. So whether it’s a chronic back issue, stiff joints, nerve pain, a recurring injury or your body just aches, don’t wait for it to get better on its own. Book in for a session today.
Let me tell you about Sonia's journey into the wonderful world of massage therapy – it's a real feel-good story! Back in 2010, Sonia dipped her toes into the massage game and hasn't looked back since. She started out by offering her magical massages at all sorts of places – School Fairs, Community Centres, Health Centres – you name it, she was there, spreading relaxation and good vibes wherever she went. From the get-go, Sonia was hooked on the amazing benefits of touch. There's something truly special about the way a simple massage can melt away stress, ease tension, and leave you feeling as light as a feather Sonia knew she had found her calling right then and there. Now, fast forward to today, and Sonia is a certified pro in Relaxing and Deep Tissue Massage. But that's not all – she's also got some seriously cool tricks up her sleeve, like her special 'No Hands Massage' technique. Yep, you heard that right – she's mastered the art of massage without even using her hands! Plus, she's a proud member of the No Hands Massage Association, rubbing shoulders (pun intended!) with the best in the biz. But wait, there's more! Sonia's not just about the body – she's got a soft spot for Indian Head Massage too. There's something about the soothing strokes and gentle kneading that just hits the spot every time. When you ask Sonia about her work, her eyes light up, and you can tell she's truly passionate about what she does; "It's not just about rubbing shoulders and kneading knots," she says with a smile. "It's about making a real difference in people's lives. Whether it's easing tension in their shoulders, soothing discomfort in their lower back, or giving tired legs a new lease on life, it's incredibly fulfilling to know that I'm making a positive impact on others." So, there you have it – Sonia's journey from a massage newbie to a certified relaxation guru. With her magic hands and heartfelt passion for helping others, she's making the world a happier, more relaxed place, one massage at a time.
