Really good
Thoroughly enjoyed food was very good healthy and delicious
I went there for a small hen do and my friend was nicely surprised. very good breakfast and lunch. The facilities are great, so maybe options and the relaxation rooms were incredible! Worth a visit. I will try the other Champney's.
I went on a spa day. The lunch was one of the best spa lunches I've ever had. A lovely buffet in a beautiful restaurant. I had a 25 minute back massage which was very good and did a relax and stretch class which was also very good. On the minus side I found the pool quite cold and it was more of a functional area rather than relaxing. Also, the jacuzzis were in a separate area so you have to walk through the corridors from one place to another. If it's warm enough to sit outside then there are lots of loungers out there but if not, as on my visit, the only areas inside to relax are small rooms that I found very dark and quite crowded. Having said all that the day as a whole was enjoyable so I would give it 4 stars.
I visited champneys Tring, for the first time. I have been under quite a lot of stress recently, so the day was planned in order to unwind and relax. I booked through lastminute.com and I rang Champneys the day after I booked in order to time my treatment and lunch. The man whom I spoke to was very relaxed and said that because I'd only booked the night before he couldn't find my booking yet but not to worry as the timings were given to me on the day- I double checked this with him as on my booking email it said I had to book, he reassured me again all was fine. When I turned up, this morning looking forward to a 'stress free day' I was shocked to find that nobody had any record of my booking. After being told I must of come to the wrong place or wrong day, and being fobbed off, my stress levels were already high. I luckily had the confirmation of the booking on my phone which I showed the lady- she looked confused and disappeared (with my phone) then came back 10 minutes later and had a discussion with another lady next to me loud enough for me to hear- saying it was not possible for me to stay as I hadnt booked a specific day. The lady then came over, shook her head (very patronising) and said 'you cannot just show up and expect to have a spa day- you need to book in advance.' Close to tears at this point, I explained that I had booked and that it was on the email, she looked again, disappeared again then came back and told me I was very lucky and they would squeeze me in. It's funny, because with other guests looking at me whilst she told me this kind of thing 'usually happens when booking through third parties' I certainly did not feel lucky. I felt rather embarrassed, and quite frankly close to abandoning the whole day! I was then told I had no treatments just lunch. I then had to argue again that my booking did include a 25 minute treatment- and lunch, at which point she shook her head and said she would let me have it this time- thanks! After all it is what I had booked!!! I booked with her my lunch slot for 12.30 then she escorted me to the breakfast room- I explained that after 30 minutes in reception I just wanted to' go and get ready for my 10.30 treatment, she said no problem, and someone would come and show me around- unsurprisingly nobody did, and I was left sitting anxiously for a further 15 minutes and I then found myself wondering around for another 10 minutes before finally finding somebody free to give me directions!! It was no real surprise to me at this point that when I showed up for lunch there was no booking under my name- and again, I was told I would be squeezed in (in front of other guests) and on my departure, I was made to sit down for another 10 minutes because there was no record of my booking & they wouldn't let me leave until they'd found me so they knew I had paid. So although I had a lovely treatment, and use of the relaxation room, which was full everytime I went in there until after 3pm- it was far from the stress free day I so desperately needed. In front of other guests I was made to feel a nuisance due to my booking through lastminute.com. I left tearful and disappointed, it is not every day I get to go for a spa day, and I felt like the whole day was a complete let down.
