Really happy with the cut, the colour wasn't quite what I'd asked for and I was made to feel slightly rushed and undervalued as a customer because I hadn't booked directly but through Treatwell
I visited McDonald Martin Hair for a haircut and blow dry. At £37 (reduced from about £50), it was more expensive than the other places I'd seen advertised, but the reviews looked great so I decided to treat myself - unfortunately, I've ended up quite disappointed.
Positives:
I do like my haircut - the length is perfect and it's exactly what I was hoping for.
Negatives:
Awkward atmosphere. I got there a couple of minutes early for my appointment at 10, to find my hairdresser was yet to arrive. When he did, there were a few uncomfortable exchanges between him and another member of staff (e.g accusing his co-worker of moving a bit of paper he'd left on the front desk). There were just the 3 of us in the small salon, so it magnified the tension and felt quite uncomfortable.
There also wasn't much in the way of customer service. I wasn't offered a drink of any sort, and he didn't bother to check the temperature was okay when washing my hair.
The blow dry was really bad. He also suggested that I'm going grey and encouraged me to consider getting highlights, telling me he'd do them for 'a good price'. I'm 23 - I had a couple of random grey hairs, but really nothing to be causing a fuss over. The sales attempt was also quite off-putting.
Overall, it feels like the experience I had didn't really align with the price of the service, or the expectations I had as a result of the positive reviews online.
Friendly and welcoming. Great hair consultation prior to blow dry which was appreciated and subsequent blow dry was exactly as requested. Damien asked lots of questions about my hair and hair it normally behaved and his blow dry was excellent. Will definitely be returning.
