Nina is lovely. Maryam is lovely. Olsi- In my opinion was a gentleman with a lot of rage.
Third visit to the salon. I was previously pretty happy. I was looking for a local salon to avoid shlepping into London. I thought Fancy could be the one. How wrong I was.
Showed Olsi a photo beforehand of a sweeping side fringe - the specific question I asked was ‘would this work on my hair?’ ‘Yes, no problem. It won’t be as straight, of course, as your hair is wavy.’ Understood. I was happy with that.
What I got was nice, but not what I asked for at all. Just a slightly shorter layer at the front. No side fringe. My forehead wasn’t covered at all. Very gently, I referred back to the photo. ‘Isn’t hers different? The part is deeper, the fringe sweeps right across her forehead.’
Oh dear. I had angered him. he started talking over me, telling me how experienced he was, saying that pic couldn’t possibly work with my hair because it was so thin. Perhaps he could have mentioned all this before he started cutting, when I first showed him the photo, I quietly suggested? More rudeness, now actually shouting me down, emphasising how experienced he was. In the end, he reduced me to tears but clearly didn’t care. No apology or anything. Worse thing was I had to wait while he blowdried my hair.
It doesn’t matter how experienced you are if you are rude and patronising to your client. Had he told me before, ‘this won’t work for you, but I can do something else awesome,’ then I’d have been totally fine with that. That was why I’d asked him beforehand. But this response was something else.
Frankly, I don’t go to the hair salon to be abused. There’s plenty of choice around here. I’d rather give my money to someone who won’t cut my hair with a side order of abuse.
