I bought this as a birthday treat for my boyfriend - and we were not disappointed! The spa itself is separate from the hotel (which is nice and gives you a certain amount of privacy). However, there was a slight disconnect between them both on arrival as the receptionist wasn't clear on what the spa day included, and appeared a little stressed out - not the most relaxing start!
As soon as we went down to the spa though, the atmosphere changed and we felt completely calm. Jacquie was lovely and even booked out the hot tub for the afternoon for us solely to use. The treatments were excellent, and if we had met her at the beginning, this would be a 5 star experience. I would definitely recommend this to a friend (although watch out for the car park at the back - very easy to miss!)
I can highly recommend the Hot Lava Shell Massage and Facials. While the hotel is small, the staff are welcoming and friendly and Jacqui's treatments are truly wonderfully relaxing. I am looking forward to my next visit.
I am afraid this visit was a complete disaster and it's difficult to know where to start.
Firstly there is no specific area for the guests to wait when having a spa. It is completely unacceptable to expect people to sit in the hotel lobby area in gowns. My mother was completely embarrassed by the fact that she was sat in a gown whilst other hotel guests sat next to her. A 75 year old lady does not want to be sat in a hotel reception area in a gown. It was her first experience at a spa and I could only apologise.
The spa room for the massages was terrible. Two people were in the spa area at the same time - meaning no privacy and a lot of noise occuring at all times - which defeats the object of an aromatherapy relaxing massage. You really did not get a relaxing experience at all. I was brought into the spa room whilst my friend was halfway through her aromatherapy massage. The changing area is separated from the massage area by a curtain. I couldn't understand when I arrived to get changed why we Jacqui was whispering and then realised it was because my friend's massage was happening just behind the curtain. The changing area (which really cannot be described as that was just the entrance to the room where the blind was pulled down leaving you to get changed and put your clothes on the chair (no lockers or anywhere to leave your belongings in a safe area) After the massage you then had to take all of your clothes back up to the hotel lobby.
The other problem I had was that Jacqui didn't seem to be aware of the other treatments we had already booked. I had already had problems in arranging the timings for day having explained we needed to be away in good time, so was very disappointed that (i) she didn't know we were due to have another treatment and (ii) she didn't know if I had paid. We then had to sort out timings and we were left with a 2 hour wait before the facials could take place.
I actually didn't make it to the other spa facilities, but by the two others in my party did. The room housing the jacuzzi and sauna smelled terrible. The jacuzzi was cold, the jets were not working and it had a strange green tinge to it. (When we advised Jacqui about this she said "well it was working yesterday"). The sauna was excessively hot and it was difficult for people to get in and out. By the time I came out of my massage both of my mum and friend were dressed and looking decidedly "un-relaxed". In the end we decided to call it a day and leave before we had our facials. We told Jacqui we were leaving she didn't seem surprised, nor did she ask if there was anything she could do. To be honest I think she was either embarrassed or not bothered. It simply was not an "Ultimate Pamper Treat". I have been to many spas before and this by far was the worst experience I have ever had. I am going to write to both yourselves and/or Jacqui and request a refund as this was not inexpensive.
