I should have known that £32 for a cut, blow dry, and conditioning treatment was too good to be true. I had my appointment with Maria, even though I did NOT book with her. I'm so sad this place didn't work out, as it is affordable, convenient, and had great reviews. I was excited to have finally found my salon. Except...
1. They were running way behind schedule, which resulted in frantic staff and lower attention to customers. I was not offered compensation for waiting, even though a girl who arrived at the same time as me was offered a bonus conditioning treatment and possibly a discount. (I wasn't asking for one, but why offer the bonus to the other girl when you are talking to both of us together?)
2. Because they were behind, I was shampooed by the receptionist, who obviously didn't do this very often as even the stylists were surprised to see her. I also didn't know it was possible to be bad at shampooing, but she was--she sort of rubbed my hair around without getting to the scalp, which felt like it was damaging my hair. She also didn't rinse out my conditioning treatment well, so the stylist had to give me a second rinse--which she scolded the shampoo girl for in front of me (in Italian, but it was obvious and uncomfortable for me). The washing chairs and the chairs at the stations were both not that comfortable, and I was asked to sort of curl down unnaturally as they weren't adjustable.
3. The actual cut/style was so rushed. Since I was shampooed by a different girl, the stylist didn't see my hair dry before I was in her chair with wet hair which bothers me, as I wanted something specific and I have thick frizzy/wavy hair which is hard to judge when wet. We discussed the cut and I requested a side-swept fringe and pointed to length I wanted and direction of sweep. She gave me a super rushed cut and when she said she was done I had chin-length layers in front--not a fringe. I decided since the experience was so bad, I didn't really want her to do the fringe so I didn't ask for a correction. I am planning to go to a different salon to get this fixed as now I look like used to have a fringe and haven't maintained it properly
4. She then offered to rough dry my hair even though I had pre-booked a proper blow dry. When that was sorted out, I still proceeded to receive a super rushed blow dry, where she was kind of pulling my hair as she ran the brush through it and I ended up with kind of a fluffy style and she even exclaimed, oh, you're hair is frizzy! (Well if you had looked at it when dry, or asked me about my texture you would have known that.) She also styled my "fringe" the wrong direction, so I guess it's good she didn't actually cut it.
5. I finally found out my stylist's name at the end of the appointment--it was Maria, who was one of the stylists with less than stellar reviews. In fact I had purposely booked another stylist and they paid absolutely no attention to that fact. If you book here, you will not get the stylist you requested.
Ladies' Haircuts
I am not very satisfied with the Brazilian treatment I had. Although the staff and the ambiance were excellent and my style looked very nice when I left the saloon, after the shampoo at home (that I did after two full days) I did not have the effect that I expected. It is okay of the roots but the ends are still a bit rough. I have been using a specific shampoo/conditioner without parabens (and all those other elements responsible for frizzy hair) so I can not even blame on the products I am using. My hair are very thick (Mediterranean look) so probably hard to control even with the Brazilian; however I had Brazilian in the past and after each shampoo it looked like I had a professional straight hair style, which is not the case now.
