The staff was very welcoming and Elsa who did my hair very charming and professional.
However I was not warned of the content of the product applied to my hair and of the possibility it could cause an irritation/allergic reaction. When I asked why there was a ventilator working in the room I was given a really evasive answer as "it gets too hot".
Unfortunately when I got home a few hours later my body started itching all over, my eyes became red and puffy and I felt out of breath and so lightheaded I had to lie down. I did not know then but it is a typical allergic reaction to the formaldehyde which is used for the treatment. I looked online and when I found the following medical studies about that product, I freaked out and washed my hair straight off.
"Whether inhaled or absorbed through the skin, formaldehyde is linked to a host of health problems. “Formaldehyde can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose and lungs, as well as dizziness or lightheadedness. Even short-term exposure can cause asthma-like symptoms, while long-term exposure formaldehyde can cause permanent central nervous system damage and ongoing pulmonary problems. So far, the risk for cancer from long-term exposure is controversial, but there is good data to support a link between and the development of leukemia,” said Amy McMichael, MD, a professor of dermatology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
I just wish I had been informed and given a leaflet about the treatment and the risk/possible side effects it might involve. I would not have spend money nor time risking my health.
