Very Nice Hotel, very clean, Food was very good and good value. Spa facilities were very good, very clean and soft towels available. However swimming pool temperature of water was less than comfortable, which was a shame as the sauna's and Jacuzzi were first class. Would also recommend that there are limited 'treatments' available and you would have to book well in advance as none were available during our weekend stay. Very good overall.
All in it was great. Enjoyed the swimming, steam and sauna rooms, jacuzzi and massage. Thought it could have been a bit more clean and tidy though. As carpets needed good vaccuming and showers outside around pool needed repaired. Room was very clean and comfortable. Food and service good. All in, I would go again.
The Mercure, Ayr is a standard brand hotel with facilities to match its 3 stars. The staff are friendly and welcoming and create a good standard of customer care. Every member of staff I encountered had the guests best interests at heart and nothing was too much trouble. They even opened up the games room for us when we enquired about playing pool, even though it was closed.
The rooms are a good size with comfortable bedding. We required more towels after using ours for the spa and they were sent to our room after phoning reception by a cheery member of housekeeping staff . There was tea/coffee making facilities, but a bit scarce on sachets, had to request more. The room decor was a little old and tired and could be doing with an updated. View lovely, but lots of bird droppings spoiling it.
The spa facilities were, again, adequate and fit for purpose, but a little dated and surroundings in need of a refresh. We used the pool, jacuzzi, steamroom, sauna. We also paid extra for a hot stone treatment (£27) The beauty therapist was lovely, professional and knowledgeable ....a very relaxing 45 mins.
We had dinner included, food was ok and a main and a sweet was covered by the £22 allocation included in the spa break deal. We only paid for drinks. Breakfast was really good. Buffet style with wide variety of hot and cold choices. Would have been nice to have seen more Scottish produce in a Scottish hotel -no potato scone, square sausage or black pudding, but think this is down to Mercure branding.
The location of the hotel is good, near shops, shopping centre, bars and beach. There is a pub next door to hotel that had a DJ on the Saturday night we visited.
The bar, reception area and restaurant looked as if it had been recently redecorated and surroundings pleasant. The management should look at updating the spa and room facilities. However, we only paid £55 each for dinner, bed, breakfast and full use of spa facilities and found our stay, pleasant, relaxing and excellent value for money.
