The hotel was very clean and tidy. The spa facilities consisted of a small pool, running machines and some other gym machines, also a sauna. All worked fine and were clean. The food was fantastic! We had the chef's recommended main course from the menu and a starter in the evening. The breakfast was a buffet and had the full fry-up available, cereal, toast, yogurt and fruit. The room was spotless as was the ensuite. All together, all you could expect. There is also a pleasant walk out the back, round a small tree lined lake!
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and helped to relax, very clean throughout the hotel and the swimming may be small but it's clean and warm, the food was so tasty and the staff helped us relax and unwind, can't wait to go back x
We arrived Sunday evening very excited to enjoy a romantic evening away using the spa facilities, evening meal etc. Instantly after arriving I was surprised at its appearance and location (industrial park) after booking the same spa package at the Cardiff Mercure through your site we expected the quality to be at a similar level, however this clearly wasn't the case. When we entered the corridor to find our room there was an awful smell which seemed old and damp so immediately realised this wasn't going to be anything like the Cardiff hotel, the room was exactly the same tired, damp and the same awful smell. We were obviously very upset and disappointed so decided to go check out the 'spa' this for us was the worst part of the whole thing as this whole experience is based around a leisure spa getaway when actually it was a horrid swimming pool, tiny gym crammed at the back with a tiny sauna in the corner. The smell of urine was too much and disgusting and at this point we agreed we couldn't sleep here let alone use the facilities. The whole point of the trip was for a special night away to celebrate and understandably we didn't pay a fortune for this but I at least expected the hotel to be clean and fresh enough to stay at. We left at that point to find another hotel which we did and obviously had to pay for another room.
We book this hotel as, our 10 wedding anniversary present, @ spa.lastminute.com. Before we arrived we called the hotel and make them aware that we are coming and we are going to celebrate our 10 wedding anniversary. The hotel on the website looked very well. Unfortunately when we arrive there we notice the location of it is in the middle of the trading estate. Not even closed to the city centre. Our first impression was quite disappointing, as the outside of the hotel was really outdated. When we got to the reception we were address to our room. When we got there, we straight away we noticed lack of the AC, the room was really hot. Room and bathroom was really out date, No USB connection to charge the phones in the sockets. We booked weekend spa package ( 2 nights ) with prepaid dinner and breakfast, therefore we wanted to take a advantage of this and we get our way towards restaurant. I was really amazed, the food and the service around the dinner - The lamb and salmon was perfect. On Saturday we got down to have good traditional English Breakfast - which was really good too. After breakfast we went down the city, when we came back we fancy a spa time. I was really surprised and upset about the treatment which I got from the receptionist when I approach him for the access to SPA. I was made aware that I can't use the swimming pool as it is overcrowded and he can not get me a towel for this purpose, claiming H&S and until the number of the people in the pool won't change he won't be able to let me in. So I asked to use the gym instead. I got to the gym which is located next to the swimming pool, separate with the glass panel from the swimming area, So I could see how many people were currently there. The Gym equipment were really old. Treadmill is probably 15 years old the same as the crosstrainer (one of them didn't work). All equipment were dirty and I could feel the sweat on them and every where around. I start my training 5k on the treadmill facing a mirror panel where I could see the situation in the pool, After few minuets of my running, I saw a couple coming to the spa and getting them self for swimming, shortly after there was a family coming with young kids to and start swimming too. I felt that time really- I don't really want to say that but - discriminated (I am EU nation with the accent). I would really understand the H&S regulations and internal safety policy as excuse, but it will have to be respected in regards to every one, not a random selected person. I felt really bad with that situation and really surprise no one has get it back on that situation. As a summary that hotel should not be called as SPA as it does not match the standards.
The staff and food were excellent and we couldn't fault them but the pool and steam room were very disappointing. The pool was minature so we didnt use it which was the whole reason we went away. There were also quite a few cobwebs on our ceiling.
