I booked as a thank you present to my Mum. I was worried why the prices were so low! For £65 each we got an hour long full body massage, facial, scalp massage, nail polish and full use of Spa facilities all day. The place I usually go to charge £70 for the massage alone, so I wasn't expecting much from Overstone Spa.
I was plesently surprised as we arrived as it's not like a place I've been to before with little lodges and a mini-bridge over water to enter.
The reception staff were friendly and informative. The spa area is small, and the lady at reception has to duck to get away from the desk, but that didn't matter at all as they were really friendly and on time. The Facial was excellent. The treatment was so relaxing. She put a facemask on and polished my nails while the facemask dried. I was very impressed!
The pool area is a nice size and the sauner and steam rooms are good too. The button for the jacuzzi is really far away though meaning you have to get out to turn it back on. Also there was a big family who brought inflatables and had absolutely no regard for people trying to swim lengnths, but that is no fault of the spa, it was just unfortunate. I would have prefered an over 18s place but not a big deal.
Our full body massages later on were divine! Really relaxing and the girls were so nice.
The only bit that let the place down was the restaurant. If it was any other day I would have complained but i didn't want to ruin an otherwise perfect day so I left it.
I saw a sign at reception saying there was an all day salad bar and we asked if that was weekends too and the girl said 'yes.' We sat down and I went to the bar to ask where it was, (it was diffeicult to get their attention as they were talking at the other end of the bar.) and we were informed in fact that there is no salad bar at the weekend. I also was a bit unsure where we were supposed to sit to eat, and if we were meant to wait to be served or order ourselves, nothing is explained. When the meals arrived we had to ask for cutlery. Also one of the girls forgot to make our drinks so after 15 mins I had to ask her fot them. My Mum had the chicken and choritzo pasta which unfortunately was not very good. It says that its a creamy sauce but really it's far more tomato based. The chicken was in uneatable clumps that you couldn't cut through. My chicken supreme was really nice, the sauce and goats chesse was lovely and although it was expensive, you got two choices of sides and was lovely and filling. the downside was that I had something other than salad in my mouth and as i picked it out it was a teared piece of packaging. (looked like the edge of a ketchup sachet.) that was in my salad. We had no check to see if we were enjoying it. It was such a shame becuase everything up untill then had been perfect. The girls behind the bar were nice though and helped me decide what meal to choose. I am myself a waitress so I understand that these things happen, but as there were a few different issues it became less acceptable.
The restaurant does have fantastic views though and the building is lovely inside.
We wern't made aware when we booked that there was a function on so the restaurant closed early, but it was good in a way because it meant that we discovered the other bar at the back which had a nice condervatory, great coffees and an even better view.
All in all we really enjoyed our day and will definitely return as it's great value for money with lovely staff! I just hope the dining experience will be better next time. If my review was just for the Spa I would give it 9/10 :)
A lovely place with lovely views. The staff were friendly and helpful. The therapies were spot on and we extended the facial and the massage which was well worth it. We had a busy day using all the facilities and treated ourselves to a super meal that was brought to us quickly. All the people there were chatty unlike many gyms I have attended. Great value for money and we shall definitely be going again.
