Spa staff and treatments were 5 stars. The receptionist on duty when we arrived was 5 stars. The rest wasn't!! The changing rooms are next to a conference room so once we were in our robes and ready to go to the 'relaxation suite' we had to walk past all the delegates entering the conference room in our robes and slippers. Not my idea of a relaxing start to our pamper afternoon with afternoon tea!! The Relaxation suite is a room with a couple of comfy chairs (no foot stools) and several (I think it was 3) bench/bed type things. These have 1970's style plastic covers on them, which are cold when your lower legs touch them. They appeared cheap and ill though out. But we did like that there were lots of cushions them, which was nice. I knew from reading prior reviews on here that there were poor facilities for a spa - no pool or jacuzzi, but as my Mum doesn't like water that hadn't put me off from booking here. The layout is very strange though - lots of stairs and things on different levels. Upstairs to the relaxation suite, passing bedrooms on the way, upstairs again to the treatment rooms, passing more bedrooms and staff making up rooms and clearing room service trays. Spa areas I have been in previously were much more separate from the 'daily running' areas of hotels. I had read reviews so had asked when I booked about afternoon tea. I was told we could have it in our robes but we had decided not to - I was glad we had already made that decision because when we got there the dining/bar area was in a totally different place to the changing rooms and relaxation suite, back past the main reception area of the hotel. I'd already see conference delegates in my robe and slippers, I was glad I didn't have to slink past guests checking in and people in the car park too!! When we had got changed we went back to reception. The receptionist who had taken over had no idea what she was doing or that she was supposed to give us a voucher for our afternoon tea. Nor did she appear to care! The Bar man/waiter for afternoon tea was lovely. Afternoon tea was not!! It included 'shop bought' cakes, including Mr Kipling type mince pies and frozen mini eclairs. It was so disappointing, an inferior quality to what I had expected and had in other venues and certainly not the treat for my Mum that I had planned it to be. Would I recommend it - no Would I book the same thing again - no, definitely no!!!
The visit was good really enjoyed everything can't wait to come back for more treatments
Negatives - small communal changing room with toilets that the conference goers came in and out of whilst we were changing. Cubicles would be an improvement. More signage needed or a "tour" of the area on entering would be good. Each time we had to be somewhere we wandered around on the wrong floors and ended up asking staff where we should be. Its a maze! Both lunchtime soups were over-peppered. Almost inedible. Everything else was fantastic. Very nice therapists, lovely relaxing treatments, great relaxation room and a lovely view from the gym.
Receptionist very welcoming. Spa very disjointed with sauna, relaxation and treatment rooms all being on separate floors and all a distance from changing rooms!
Treatments were amazing can't wait to go back!
