Didn't like that the members changing rooms were a lot cleaner than the guest, as Id payed £70 for 1 night I felt obliged to use them anyway. Back massage was below average due to masseuse talking to much and technique not that great, treatments seemed very unorganised. The lodge we stayed in was lovely, food at the hotel was tasty, although not much to choose from, would definitely stay there again.
Heard wonderful things about Kenwick Park spa from a work colleague so decided to try it out for my mum's 50th birthday celebrations. Booked a Body Beautiful Day spa deal which included a full body massage and a full body exfoliation. The treatments were done in private treatment rooms upstairs and were completely wonderful - the staff were lovely, the massage was good and there was a relaxation room where were lounged afterwards. I had also arranged extra treatments for my mum by emailing the spa directly and the lady who organised them was very helpful.
The negative part of our experience started when we were shown to the changing rooms to and there are two ladies changing rooms; one said adult members and the other said non-members and families. We first went into the non-members room and found it to be completely full, there was nowhere to stand and get changed so we went back out and tried the members room as it may have been less full. Upon entering, everyone in the room looked round and stared at us before one member said "i think spa ladies are supposed to use the other changing room" in a very hostile manner. This did not start the spa day very well as we felt completely unwelcomed by the leisure centres regular members. Another negative point was that the staff members had lunch in the same leisure centre cafe with the guests. This seemed quite unprofessional as we could clearly overhear everything they were talking about - thankfully they weren't talking about us! Furthermore, the spa shares the steam room/sauna/jacuzzi and pool with the leisure centre so when we went on a Saturday, the whole place was full of families with small children. This is fine, but I would have liked to know in advance that the poolside experience wasn't going to be as relaxing as I thought. The steam room was quite small and the steam itself came out of a dirty hole in the wall which made alarming banging noises every time it was activated and producing more steam.
In conclusion, the treatments included in the spa day package were very well done and professional, however, the spa facilities themselves left us feeling second-best to the regular members and was not very relaxing at all. I would go back to the spa to use the treatment rooms but would not stay to use the leisure centre.
