Mirta is very good at her job and can be trusted! I feel like I’m in safe hands every time I go! I got a butterfly haircut which she recommended to me once I explained what I need. My hair always looks amazing and healthy after leaving the salon.
I booked Mirta on the strength of the positive reviews here, but I had the worst experience I've ever had with a hairdresser. I asked her for a haircut and made it clear I still wanted to have shoulder-length hair and maintain face-framing layers. Instead she gave me a graduated bob, short at the back and longer at the front. I'd never asked for a bob and even if I had, a graduated bob is not what I'd have asked for. Usually hairdressers always double-check with you before taking a huge amount off - they don't only check by showing you the amount with their fingers, but actually put their hands up to your chin or neck or shoulders and ask if they've got the desired length right. Mirta didn't do this. She didn’t seem to care about what I’d actually asked for.
She was friendly, but I found her very unprofessional. She didn't seem focused on the haircut - she took a phone call during the cut, and she was constantly talking to other people, and even eating snacks during the cut. Her tools looked dirty, you could see other people's hairs in them, and she would drop them on the floor and pick them up and just carry on with the cut.
After drying she then started curling my hair, something I hadn't asked for and she'd never mentioned to me, and I only realised she was doing it when it was too late. So I had a curly bob that I didn't want and unnecessary heat damage to my fine, breakable hair. She only showed me the mirror, including the back, after it had been curled, which meant I only realised she had done a graduated bob when I got home and washed it and it was straight again. I then texted Mirta to ask if she could please take off the bits at the front to make it a blunt bob and she said I could come in the next day.
When I came in the next day, instead of spraying my hair with water and combing it down, she cut it dry. I was shocked by this - I have very straight hair and you can't get a decent cut if you cut it dry. I realised when I got home how uneven it was and asked Mirta if she could issue a refund, as I now need to get it trimmed at another salon. Bits are sticking out and it looks so messy. She is refusing, and says I have to come back so she can 'verify' the cut. But I live an hour's bus journey away - I only booked with her because I happened to be in the area at the time - and don't trust her to essentially mark her homework. I've already given her a second chance. Frankly I don't trust her with scissors around my hair. She's also a self-employed contractor so there's no one else at the salon I can speak to to get redress. I actually spoke to the salon manager on the phone and she apologised and said she completely understood and told me there have been similar issues with Mirta before. The manager said she will speak to Mirta herself but can't do anything herself to refund the £50 I wasted. She actually advised me to write a negative review.
