I would love to be able to give a better review, however my experience at the Nail & Beauty Lounge fell way short of my expectations and I would not return to this venue or recommend it to friends.
My first impression of the venue was that it was a little chaotic - no problem with this, a lot of beauty salons don't really have dedicated reception areas and that's fine. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and I was offered a drink - again, no problem here.
However, the problems began when I was shown to the treatment area. This wasn't a room, more a cupboard, behind a threadbare curtain which didn't even go to the floor, meaning anyone walking past would be able to see everything (!) The 'room' was messy, with boxes stacked against the wall, the therapist's coat and bag on the floor etc etc - I wouldn't mind it not being in a proper room, and indeed have had treatments in this sort of area before, but I think the least you can expect is that it is clean and tidy.
I had a Hollywood wax and I found it very painful, which is out of the ordinary for me. I'm not convinced proper Lycon was used, despite being assured that they were using Lycon - the wax was yellow in colour and seemed a lot thinner than usual. The therapist seemed to have difficulty when pulling it off, and repeatedly pinched and pulled at my skin during the treatment. There was also incredibly loud house music playing throughout - don't get me wrong, I love it on a night out, but when someone is determinedly pulling at your nether regions every 3 seconds, some whale song might have gone down better. When the ordeal was finally over, the area wasn't treated with professional-standard products as you would expect in a salon, but a bottle of Vaseline moisturiser... the therapist didn't do the buttock line, and I was also left with bits of hair and wax in various places. Also, I was given no direction as to how to position my legs etc - I've had a lot of waxes so I knew the drill, but it did strike me that it would be off-putting for someone new to waxing.
Thank god I only booked here because of an offer, meaning my wax only cost £20. Had it been full price, I would have been livid. Unfortunately I prepaid on Wahanda meaning the salon already had my money...
All in all, I think I could have done a better job myself and the standard of treatment/ambiance here isn't worth the money, even if there are offers on. Book somewhere else!
Avoid! The treatment was quick, and I soon realised why: the beautician didn't do her job properly, and I left with loads of hair. Not ideal for a Hollywood wax (all off)! I also felt rushed out of the treatment room to make way for the next appointment, while they were running late to begin with!
The treatment "room" seemed unclean, and was separated from the rest of the salon by a curtain that wasn't long enough to cover the floor. The beautician also left the room after the treatment without much consideration for me and I was lucky no one walked past at that point or I would have been completely exposed...
The bathroom (which seemed to be used by both employees and customers) had no soap and no towel in it, which makes me wonder about the overall cleanliness of the place as I'm not sure employees have anywhere to wash their hands between customers...
Perhaps the other treatments are worth a visit, but do avoid getting waxed there.
One of the least painful waxing experiences I've had. Jenny was quick and super professional, but friendly at the same time. I asked to get my brows shaped as well even though I hadn't booked, but they saw to me straight away even though it was a busy Friday evening. Great value for money, will definitely be returning.
Really friendly staff, and great value for money. Exactly what you would expect for the price and shellac nails lasted really well. Keep waiting a little while as a busy salon, but would still definitely recommend. Pedicure in particular was really good, all hard skin removed and feet felt great for a while after.
