I went to Hair and the City for a Deluxe Pedicure. The staff were friendly, but I had to wait 15 minutes before the girl took me downstairs. The basement was quite clean bit could have benefitted from some nice music maybe? The Pedicure was good, I enjoyed the scrub and she gave a good massage too. The end result looked nice if a tiny bit scruffy with the polish.
This was the first time I've ever had a manicure, so I was really looking forward to it. However, it was an awful experience, verging on traumatic. I had to wait 40 minutes for my appointment since the stylist Karina was running late. That wasn't a problem in itself, I understand that these things happen, but she then seemed very stressed and harassed when I wanted to go ahead with both my appointments for manicure and pedicure but she was still friendly at this point. The pedicure seemed to go ok at the time, though got a bit messed up afterwards as no one had told me I needed to bring flip flops to wear home (in my naivety I assumed the pedicure would be allowed to dry in the salon. But the shellac nails went disastrously wrong and were all lumpy and puckered in places, there was also bits of fluff in the varnish from when she had used some cotton wool over my nails but not bothered to clean it off. I got the impression that this had all happened because she was hurrying trying to make up time for having been late with her previous appointment. when I tried to gently ask why the shellac was all lumpy and puckered, she wouldn't meet my eye and mumbled that she didn't know. Eventually she said 'Do you want me to just take it off then', in a really pissed off, annoyed voice. This seemed a bit unfair since it looked AWFUL, like a small child had painted my nails, so I really wasn't being difficult. She took it off, and agreed to do a normal polish manicure instead but the whole thing was very awkward by this point. The manicure itself was pretty sub-standard since she didn't take all the shellac off properly. Least relaxing experience ever in a very grubby looking and dark treatment room. I suspect I just got this place on an especially off day, even so I'd avoid anyone wanting nail treatments to avoid it all costs.
