very prompt service, really helped me relax as I have been very tense following an injury, but there seemed to be building work going on inside which spoiled the ambience a tad.
The massage was ok, a combination of oil massage with some thai techniques, even if I wanted only thai massage. The staff was friendly and checking with me during the session if I want to change something . Also you can hear from the room, everything is going on in the reception and upstairs.
Didn't have to wait for my treatment at all, got taken to a room right away. Venue was lovely, looks tiny from outside. Therapist was lovely, and wiped me down with a hot towel after the massage which I very much appreciated. Would visit again.
Not a place I could recommend, very average
I am very unhappy with the service I received for my full leg wax at Riverkwai Thai Massage. This is because: a) The therapists were either not trained or not competent or both; I suspect both. I have over 20 years’ experience of waxing my own legs at home and they had no system. The first lady treating me seemed to be just sticking wax strips over my legs at random and removing them, rather than going round logically, bit by bit, to avoid missing any areas. She also used two different methods: strips with wax and the “pull off” wax which does not use strips (the equivalent brand for home use is called “Nair”). The latter is an absolutely useless product, not fit for purpose, which I have tried to use at home with absolutely disastrous results. I could not believe that a supposedly professional service is using this product. b) Using this pull-off wax is very painful when you try to pull it off to remove hairs. The wax also was too hot towards the end of the treatment, so it scalded my skin. I am 5 months pregnant and could do without the extra discomfort. c) the pull off wax took ages to remove; I had to spend about 15 minutes at the end of the appointment trying to remove it from my legs so I could put my tights back on. I still did not manage to remove all the pull off wax as it had dried hard on my legs. The therapist also got it on my knickers, and I don’t know whether it will come off as, like I say, it has dried hard. I have photos if you need evidence. d) my therapist had to call her colleague in to help her, so there were two people working on my legs at one time, neither of whom seemed to have a clue what they were doing. It was a farce. E) in any event, the therapists had to abandon the job halfway through so I did not receive the service I paid for. There are still plenty of hairs on the fronts of my legs and the entire backs are not done at all. F) I have wasted my morning walking from Wanstead to Leytonstone for this “service” and also in having to compose this letter to you. G) although my original therapist was apologetic, when I came out to reception (having just spent literally 15 minutes trying to remove hardened bits of wax from my legs and underwear), I asked about the refund and neither of the women at reception seemed to care at all or be able to help. One of the therapists (whose English I could barely understand) was downright rude to me. The other phoned someone and then said I would have to contact Treatwell. I then phoned Treatwell and was told it is policy that I need to put everything in writing. AVOID.
