Was initially impressed at the salon which was simple but bright and the staff who seemed very competent. The hairdresser seemed very nice and she seemed to understand what I wanted, so after looking at some photos we quickly proceeded with the colour, although I wasn’t offered a drink or anything. After the foils were applied, they were left on for a very very long time - to the extent that I raised my concern to the staff. They checked it and said they had never made a mistake with colour and it was fine. When the foils were finally removed, my whole hair was bleach blonde- apart from about an inch at the top which I guess is supposed to be balayage but it looks like very haphazard highlights which have grown out. My hair is bright yellow and nothing like what was requested. Even for the blow dry I made it clear to a second hairdresser what style I wanted, which was completely ignored despite asking several times. Have called the salon and will be going back next week, so hope it’s fixable. Really disappointed after reading such good reviews and initially having good first impressions.
Happy with the result
I have been to Joelle Shades on three or four previous occasions for cuts and colour, and have had a really fantastic experience every time and great results. Perhaps that's why I found my last visit disappointing in comparison. I went for a balayage - the last one I had at Joelle Shades was fantastic so I had high hopes. I arrived on time but the stylist was running a tiny bit late. No problem. In the meantime, another stylist started sectioning off my hair, ready for the colour to be applied right away. When the stylist was ready, she didn't stop to check what I wanted or discuss with me, so I had to say "Hang on a minute" and take some of my hair out of the clips to show her what my hair looks like when it's down and where my parting is etc. We looked at some photos and discussed and we were good to go once again. Perhaps we should have spent more time discussing because the end result was not quite what I asked for - I suppose I just thought I could trust that the result would be good because I'd had a good experience there in the past. My advice to customers is: be very very specific and explain yourself clearly if there's something you want. The staff are Italian and speak very good English, but just make sure nothing is lost in translation. It's helpful to bring photos with you. My advice to Joelle Shades is: slow down, don't rush and take the time to consult with your customer before going ahead with the service. Apart from that, I had great service - thanks, Joelle Shades!
