Sorry - not a good manicure. The colour had chipped within a day and needed removing after 2 days. The shape the nails were filed into wasn't even. Even though the manicurist was very pleasant, I won't be returning for a manicure here.
Manicure
I had quite an unfortunate visit to this salon. I went for a callus peel - having seen the Treatwell info page, it sounded just right for what I needed with all the dry skin on my feet. However, there were no warnings that the gel used is particularly strong (after some research, turns out it's quite acidic!) either online or at the salon from the staff. As I have sensitive skin, if I'd known about this I would have avoided the treatment like the plague!
They absolutely lather this stuff on, all over your feet and not just on the dry parts. Mid-way through my callus peel, when my feet had been burning with pain and I quietly gritted my teeth through it, thinking it was part of the process, the beautician mentioned to me that the bottom of my foot looked quite sore and the gel was quite strong. You don't say?! Unfortunately it was far too late by then.
I went on a lunch break, and when I got back to my office after limping my way there on a very sore foot, I had time to look at my feet and realised the gel had literally eaten holes into my skin (!), and my little toe was blistered and bleeding. I visited a pharmacist in case it was an allergic reaction - but it wasn't, it's just the gel was too strong for sensitive skin, and I'd had no idea until it was too late. Unfortunately, with the main injury being on the bottom of my right foot, I had it in dressings for about 3 weeks before it started to recover properly, because I still had to be able to walk everywhere. It has been nearly a month and I'm finally able to walk properly now, and my foot is beginning to look like normal again.
I cannot fault Treatwell's customer service. I got in touch asking for advice and the lady I spoke to was wonderful, incredibly helpful and sorry to hear of my experience, they offered me a voucher despite it really not being their fault and they updated the callus peel info page. They couldn't offer me any kind of refund/compensation because I paid the salon directly on arrival.
Smart Look Beauty, on the other hand, have ignored my attempts to get in touch and explain what happened. I'd rather have sorted it out with them in advance of writing a review, but I've tried and heard nothing. Such a shame.
Bottom line: DO NOT get a callus peel if you have sensitive skin on your feet.
DO NOT expect great customer service from Smart Look Beauty if you have an issue.
