You know the hairdresser is unhappy with their own work when they let you leave saying ‘it will look better after a few washes’ after a colour. Emma was lovely but unsure of how to balayage my hair. She said my black hair wouldn’t ever balayage to pictures I’d shown her (of other black hair that was balayaged). I told her I had previously had it done and she wanted evidence. As I looked through my phone for pictures of me last summer, she got frustrated and said she was going to start mixing the colour as she knew what I wanted anyway and walked away. I still showed her the pictures once she had mixed the colours. She said it would look like the pictures.
The colour was neither a full head, highlights or balayage, just a subtle mess of uneven colour with bands. The cut was supposed to be layered but looks uneven. Even down to the drying she said she would curl it but decided after the blow dry she would leave it. No consultation.It was almost like she had had enough.
If this was a big salon I would be going back to sort this mess out with a different hairdresser. As it happens, I think each hairdresser is self employed and it would be unfair to ask them to do it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I paid simply for the time and materials put in but I would rather she have been honest and say I would need to rebook with someone who had experience of balayage.
I am now going to waste another similar amount of money for another hairdresser to sort my hair out.

The shop was well prepared for social distancing

Solo is a really nice hairdressers with a family feel. Emma is very friendly and happy to listen to what you want and need from your hairstyle. The prices are reasonable and the covid health and safety features are reassuring. I would recommend the salon and Emma.
