I had a reiki session for a second time and was as equally as happy as the first time. My practitioner, Hilary is such a friendly, calming person who puts you at ease immediately. I beleive reiki can have great effects on your wellbeing, which has happened to me since I started having it. I find it relaxing at the time and directly after, and energising the days after. I would reccomend the treatment, but also Stepping Stones, which is a nice salon. The full price for reiki is only £30, meaning you can have it regularily if you wish. Highly recommended.
My experience at Stepping Stones gave me some great ammunition for pub banter with the girls*….
Firstly there was alot of confusion about what a Whanda £50 voucher was, but after 3 phone calls it got sorted... I went along to my appointment for a full facial and back massage (looking forward to relaxing) when I arrived there seemed to be some more confusion about what I had booked in for, and the receptionist suggested I have some threading?! I was a bit bemused because that was the last thing I wanted! After the confusion was dealt with the therapist took me through to the room, she was very friendly (as was the receptionist) but even though some of the reviews on here said the rooms were basic I was a bit surprised at quite how basic, It felt a bit like temporary accommodation.
After the therapist put on some music and turned the lights down I forgot about the surroundings and started to relax. However the massage was not really ones I have had elsewhere, it felt like I was being slathered in oil and she used very quick movements but hardly any pressure, it didn’t really do anything for me and to make matters worse every time the therapist stood at the head end of the massage couch her stomach bumped into my head!
Afterwards it was time for my facial and the therapist asked me if id had one before, I said I had and that I’ve got very sensitive skin and its been quite sore recently. The facial was much like the massage, lots & lots and lots of product and water and really fast rubbing movements all over my face and neck. Part way through I felt a sharp scratching feeling on my face and asked the therapist what it was and she showed me a metal implement that is meant to be for blackheads apparently, she said ‘it hurts doesn’t it’ - erm YES!
Then it was on to a steam and some toner which smelt a bit like antiseptic and stung my face, after which it was time for the mask and whilst the therapist was applying it she commented; ‘you’ve got lots of hair on your face’ – *Que shrieking laughter from the girls in the pub. Er right, I really didn’t know what to say to that! I have got some downy blonde hairs on my cheeks but id never really seen them as a problem! Then I was left for 10 mins with the mask on, by this point the same song had been playing on repeat on the CD player for over an hour – there is only so much repeat panpipes a person can take! When I looked in the mirror afterwards my face was really red and when I got home and looked at my face closer I had product in every concealable crevice; in my ears, up my nose and a film over my eyes which id been trying to rub away whilst walking to the train station home!!!
Two days later and I have to admit my face does feel cleaner and my skin smoother but I don’t really think it was worth it! I did think quite carefully about writing this review, I feel a bit bad as the girls working there were really friendly and sweet but it was just unlike any treatment I’d ever experienced before and the hairy face comment, well what can I say?....
I thoroughly enjoyed my very relaxing reiki treatment. Stepping Stones is in a convenient location in Clapham, with nice staff and good facilities. My treatment was carried out by Hilary, who is a very friendly lady. She talked me through what would happen beforehand and put me at ease. I felt very chilled out during the session as well as afterwards, which lasted for a few days. I have also been back for two more reiki sessions so far to remove blocked energy and revitalise me. I am pleased I have ound stepping stones and am well able to afford their reasonable prices.
The staff were very friendly, there was a very calm and serene atmosphere about the place. It remained open until very late for those who work during the day. The therapist was very informative and seemed to know her stuff. Overall I was very impressed and was glad I went.
Very well studied (experience with multiple holistic techniques) and kind therapist, courteous front desk staff. The place itself is functional and clean, adequate for its purpose, but not exactly atmospheric or cosy.
