I booked in on the phone, having explained that my nilas needed a lot of TLC, and I thought i'd been booked in for a gel treatment. It turned out not to be so. When I got to the treatment suite, the therapist was runnning late with a client, and the computer was down (something that has happend to me on several previous occasions), so she did not know who I was, and was unable to check what I'd booked in for. I was asked to sit in the consultation room and select my nail polish colours, but the ones on the chart that i liked were not on the stand, so when the therapist came in, she had to go all the way down to reception to get them, thus eating into my treatment time. When I explained what I had come for, she said I'd only got a 45 minute slot, only enough for a manicure, not for the gel treatment. I could have this, and rebook for the gel treamnt on another day. As I had saved up especially for this, and had very little free time in the near future, that was not an option for me. I felt that as she had been delayed with her previous client, and had had to go up and down to get the colours I wanted, she was very rushed with my manicure, and I did not think she had given it adequate drying time ,so it smudged on the way home, despite having sat in the lounge area for half an hour afterwards. I also had to go to the main reception to pay,as the computer still wasn't working. . On 2 previous times, I had booked a manicure, onlyto have it cancelled at teh last moment, with no real reason. As I needed the manicures for weddings,I was not well pleased. All in all, not very satisfactory.
I have experienced a variety of Spas and was disappointed with what Bannatyne calls a Spa, I admit that the gym facilities are excellent. The food is poor in the cafe, the paintwork and building is tired, you can't really walk around the building in your robe and slippers without feeling self-conscious, it does not have the ambiance of a classic spa as there are no comfy sitting areas. The pool area is ok with a steam room, Sauna and Jacuzzi. The staff are very friendly, however there was no interaction, as if they were just going through the motions, we had the impression that they didn't want to be there. Please do not waste your money, go to somewhere like Aqua Sana which is not far from Mansfield, this has offers and is good value for a Spa. Bannatynes is a health club with a couple of treatment rooms it is not a Spa.
We had a lovely day at The Bannatyne Spa Mansfield. While the building, setting and atmosphere of the facility on the whole were far from relaxing (and felt quite budget / basic) the treatment area was heaven. The therapists were excellent, in fact the first massage we had was so good we promptly booked another massage and facial for later in the day. The pool/spa area was alright, but little better than a decent local authority facility, and we were surprised to find an all day breakfast on the menu in the cafe! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for reasonably priced and very good treatments, but if you're after the ultimate spa day, you might want to look further afield for a more tailor made venue.
