Lovely relaxing day. The staff were informative and helpful. The facilities were clean and almost everything was working. Shame about the jacuzzi! Didn't spoil our day though.
The building is large, open and airy. We were made welcome and shown around by a smiley faced young lady. we ordered lunch and were remembered by the young man who took our order and it was ready and waiting for us (and very tasty). Although busy as a hole, the pool sauna, steam and jacuzzi area was reasonably quiet and we could use everything as we wished apart from the jacuzzi. There were 2 small jacuzzis and one was broken (and had been for 3 weeks according to a member) but this didn't affect us.
The facial we had was excellent, relaxing and done very professionally. We left feeling totally relaxed and floating on air!!
first impression was poor. reception staff were grumpy. the place felt like a standard gym rather than a spa.
when i got changed into my robe and slippers i then had to walk back towards the reception area along a corridor which faced the cafe - as the only person in a robe and slippers i felt very silly as i walked towards everyone in the cafe (i didnt see anybody else in robe and slippers the whole day - i think most people were there for the gym)
the 'relaxation room' was just a waiting room - a small room with a couple of small sofas and some magazines.
my facial and massage were nice until the therapist told me she was going to write a list of the products she used so i could buy them - before i'd even got off the bed and got dressed, she then tried to sell them as i paid which made me feel very pressured to buy.
the reflexology was ok, the therapist stopped 10 mins into the treatment to ask if i would like to lie down and have the lights off which i thought was odd - surely the therapist should set the scene before starting treatment! although she was nice, it made it feel very unprofessional. she also had long nails which really didnt work with the reflexology! the treatment also lasted 20 mins shorter than i had booked and paid for, i though it may have been cheaper when i paid but she still charged me for the full time.
the pool area was nice but it still felt like standard gym, not a spa at all.
We had a great day which was very relaxing. However, when described as a spa I expected a wider variety of relaxation rooms. There was a pool with saunas, steam rooms and jacuzis which were lovely but no other spa rooms. The treatment rooms were then in a separate location upstairs with only a small 'relaxation' room to wait in beforehand. All the staff were very friendly and the cafe offered a good selection of food and drinks for lunch. Although not quite what I was expecting we had a very relaxing day, the highlight of which was the massages. These were done exceptionally well and made the whole experience. With the two for one voucher we had, I felt the day was very reasonable.
I bought the 2 for 1 spa day which included the back, neck and shoulder massage, and scalp massage and it was brilliant. We also went for a swin and used the saunas and steam rooms. There were several sauna/steam rooms so none we too crowded at any one timme, and the pool was large compared to some spas I have been to. My friend has a bad back and explained this to the therapist and she was more gentle in these areas and concentrated more on the shoulders and neck. Everything was spotless, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and I'd definitely go back. If you can get the 2 for 1 it is also brilliant value.
