Dont be put off by the location. The wax is super gentle and the staff so professional. It was my first time and they were so sweet to me, explaining everything and keeping me calm.
I gave myself plenty of time to find the venue - glad I did as it took me a while to find the green door down a side street in Soho. I was buzzed straight in and went up to the first floor. My first impression was that it was super sketchy: dirty grey carpets on the stairs; rubbish strewn across the hallway entrance and low res signage attached to the wall (possibly using blu tac?).
Within seconds a young, brunette girl with an Australian accent greeted me at the top of the stairs. She was very friendly, took my name, gave me a clipboard to fill in my details because I was a new visitor, and sat me in the waiting area whilst she prepared the room. As soon as she was ready she took me through, asked if I’d been waxed before (no) and explained the process. She then left the room for me to undress.
When she returned she got straight to work. She put on her gloves, tested the temperature of the wax on the back of her hand, she took a new stick each time she used the wax and was generally very professional in her approach. I was quite anxious and she definitely helped to calm my nerves. She talked casually throughout the treatment and told me exactly what was going to happen/how it might feel at each stage to try and stop my body from tensing up at the prospect of the unknown. She also told me about the science behind it and kept chatting to take my mind off what was happening.
It was painful but that is to be expected. It stung for a little while after I left but I’d forgotten all about it within half an hour. The wax itself was a good temperature and gentle on my skin. No fragrance or residue. The finished result is pretty good given that it took less than 20 minutes; before we started she did explain that the softest, shortest hairs were unlikely to be picked up by the wax and she was right. However, I definitely think the results will be even better if I went for another treatment in 4 weeks as recommended.
This is not a salon or a spa; the building leaves a lot to be desired. The room that you have your treatment in leads straight out to the waiting area so when the member of staff re-enters the room after you’ve undressed anyone waiting in the holding area could see you lying on the bed. The towels are a little aged and the decor is low budget. If you can see past that, the staff and the treatment itself are clearly what keep people coming back, and writing positive reviews.
The lady that did my wax was fab and I would seriously consider revisiting solely based on how lovely she was.
