From the moment we arrived it went down hill! We were sat in a bar area & asked to complete our questionnaire & told someone would come to show us around the facilities & give us our locker key. About 10 minutes later some woman through a pack on the table, asked us if we were having afternoon tea, what time we wanted it & did we want our champagne at the same time, she then disappeared , no hello, introduction or pleasantries, a bit like a whirlwind! After 25 minutes I went to hand in our forms, 10 minutes later I asked if we could be shown around & was told yes in a minute, there were 4 staff standing having a chat at this point, I asked if we could have a glass of water, this never arrived? Asked, if we could book some extra treatments at the reduced prices advertised, nothing was available? After 45 minutes a man walked through the bar & my daughter asked if he was the spa manager, he was, she explained our experience thus far & he apologised & went to get our keys, he then showed us around & our spa day began, finally! This was a special treat for my daughters 23rd birthday so we tried to put this behind us & enjoy the rest of our day. The facilities, decor & cleanliness was all ok, nothing amazing, so I kept reminding myself it was a cheap deal. We were taken for our massage, again my young lady didn't introduce herself, never asked me if the pressure was ok? There was no relaxing music (a first in my experience) , I asked her to use more pressure, & although nice, none of the knots in my shoulders or neck were removed, then suddenly she ran out of time & the massage came to a sudden stop. My daughter enjoyed the massage but the room was freezing, not conducive to relaxing & letting go. Then afternoon tea, nothing savoury, where we're the sandwiches? All sweet, sweet scones, sweet cakes, no atmosphere but the young waitress was lovely. On leaving the receptionist who had been unfriendly, unhelpful, rude & dismissive suddenly came to life and asked had we enjoyed our day & addressed us for the first time as ladies? We just said thanks & left, very disappointed, but once again reminded ourselves it was a cheap offer & a birthday celebration so let's be positive! Really wish we'd paid a bit more & gone elsewhere, would never recommend or return.
Very quiet as you walked into the entrance, friendly staff however we did get lots as signs were a bit difficult to follow. Pool was nice, the sauna etc were all quite small though and jacuzzi very small. We got stuck with two pervy old men when we sat in there, but I guess that can't be controlled! Treatments were nice and relaxing. We had lunch, lots to choose from and some lovely healthy choices too. All a bit quiet though. Had afternoon tea and we were the only people there, lacked an atmosphere really and the staff seemed very bored (can't blame them). We were ready to leave by 4.30pm. I think the package we go was good value but I will try somewhere else next time.
Generally the day was lovely, the afternoon tea was delicious and the massages were spot on - my therapist was excellent. We liked the facilities, especially the amber lounge, and the refreshments available were exactly as needed. However there were a few occasions on which staff could have been better or service faster - this is my only reason for not awarding 5 stars - we will almost certainly go back, but when there is another offer.
