I’ll start with the pros:
- Very quiet salon
- Massage chair was a lovely touch (she turned on ‘relaxing’ music when washing my hair as well, which was really nice)
- She was very gentle with brushing my knotty hair
- She was very thorough in providing a nice blow out – with a round brush (a brave feat, given my long hair)
Now the unfortunate cons:
- I was charged much more than I was expecting. I booked a half head highlights with cut and finish for £60. I did opt for a treatment which was offered to me when I arrived, which I suspected was not included in the price (although this was not made clear). There was no note on the website that there would be an additional charge for long hair. Having said that, I would have been happy to pay a surcharge if I had been asked (I do understand long hair uses more dye than short hair) but only my roots were highlighted. This is absolutely fine by me as I am mostly blonde already, but I am not happy to have been charged more as the full length was not dyed, only a few inches at the top were! I also opted NOT to have a haircut, as I wanted to be courteous and save time – I know long hair takes a bit more time to style. I (wrongly) assumed this would be factored into the price, or perhaps the treatment would have been complementary as I gave up the haircut that was included in the £60. All in all, I ended up being charged £80 for half-head root highlighting, conditioning treatment, and a blow dry. Which is way too much – I would have gone to a reputable high street salon for that kind of money, had I known ahead of time.
- The colour itself is decent – the shade is nice and blends well with the rest of my hair. I’m not entirely happy with the technical aspect though . The highlights were put in quite chunky, despite my hair being naturally very dark. Before, no one ever guessed that blonde was not my natural colour because my previous hairdresser did such a seamless job putting the highlights in thinly and evenly – making it look like I had naturally blonde, multi-tonal hair. Now it looks like I am noticeably brunette trying to be blonde (which I am, but trying to hide that!). I should have been more clear in what I wanted instead of assuming she would match what I had done previously.
- Obviously, dying blonde for so many years will damage a person’s hair. My hair is in pretty good condition, despite this. She did chastise me for using a flat iron (which I use occasionally and sparingly to tame frizz, as my hair is naturally straight). She also did not offer to finish my style with a flat iron or curling iron after the blow out, which was unfortunate. It meant I left the salon with crazy fly-aways and frizz.
Despite the negatives, overall, I would still recommend the salon if you pre-pay and are very clear on what the fee covers and what you want.
I think what really put the sour taste in my mouth was the cost – I was not expecting to pay £80 for less than what I was promised for £60. That alone was my main complaint and basis for the review. I would have been happy with everything else if the price was as advertised. I am not an unreasonable person and would have overlooked the other small negatives if I had not, in my mind, overpaid for the service.
Ursula T and Camilla are surprisingly blessed and most accommodating, warm, conscientious, humble, thoughtful, approachable, practical realists who delivered and a totally fantastic Ursula T and Micro-abrasion experience, I look forward to repeating, as a part of my personal maintenance.
