What are the benefits of Argan oil and how can I use it?

I've heard of Argan oil being used for hair and skincare, as well as for cooking (in a different form). Can anyone provide more info on how to use it, and what the benefits are?

Argon oil ,olive oil almond oil can all be used to condition the hair ,You can place about a teaspoon on your hands rub palms and apply to your hair, massage well especially to the ends ,wrap in a warm towel and after a few hours shampoo off.Or if you have time you can apply more oil ,leave overnight but sleep on a folded towel on your pillow case,fCling film will keep you awake .It is important that you massage the oil out with neat shampoo, once loosened rinse really well.there should be no need for conditioner if you have done this properly as this is a well known tip from top hairdressers and models prior to a shoot

In addition to all the conditioning benefits that have been mentioned below I love the moroccan oil treatment at the end of styling or throughout the day just to smooth down any fly-aways or frizz.
It can also be used in some colour processes as an additional conditioning treatment but you would have to check with your stylist or colour technician that it wouldn't act as a barrier to the colour.

Argan is high in essential fatty acids, it is a good source of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and antioxidents. It is very beneficial for the skin, hair and nails; Integumentary system. It can be used to revitalize and hydrate dry, dull skin.
Argan can be used to treat conditions such acne, eczema and psoriasis. Other benefits are believed to be helping to fade stretchmarks, fine lines and wrinkles as it improves skin's elasticity. A very small amount of Argan Oil, or Liquid Gold as it's called, goes a long way, rub some directly onto the skin, especially at night.

I personally use products that contain argan oil. I love the products because they hydrate and moisturize dry, brittle hair. Once applied, the oil does not weigh the hair down, nor does it leave a greasy residue. It absorbs very well into the hair shaft. I would highly recommend argan oil products!
As mentioned, argan oil can also be applied to the skin to hydrate and moisturize. For colder weather or extremely dry skin, I would also suggest using it on your skin after showering and then layering on a lotion or cream afterwards to soften your skin.

The 4 oils I have used mostly are Sesame Oil: helps to cure inflammation and swellings, helps to reduce muscular aches and pains and moistures the skin.
Olive Oil: Reduces stiffiness in the muscles and reduces swelling and inflammation .
Almond Oil: Reduces skin irritations, nourishes the skin and helps to reduce pain or stiffness
Joboba: good for hair conditions and you only need a little ammount.
I also have heard Aloe Vera is good for hair conditions if mixed with a carrier. If you are looking at a specific problem let me know.

Argan for the skin, just a few drops warmed in the fingertips and applied to the skin is enough to soften and moisturise. High levels of vitamin E and anti-oxidants help neutralise free-radicals and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Plant sterols and saponins improve problem skin. For the hair apply and leave for 30mins prior to washing.
As a food the argan seeds are toasted before the oil is pressed. Argan food oil is 80% unsaturated with twice the vitamin E of olive oil. Studies have shown it can lower cholesterol. It has a rich nutty flavour and is delicious on salads.

Various oils are beneficial to the hair especially for hair that has dry damaged ends. You can also put a plastic bag or cligfilm over once the oil has been applied and a little heat with a hairdryer this will open the cuticle of the hair and help the oil to penetrate.
