Off to a festival for the first time this summer? Sorted your tent, your transport and what to pack for insta versus real life? That just leaves the tricky situation of beauty essentials. In a dream world you’ll be operating a strict regime of different festival braids worthy of Kate Bosworth and intricate glitter designs you’ve watched tutorials of on Youtube. Now we hate to break it to you but try recreating these looks minus a mirror, in two square foot of space when the nearest you’ve been to running water in 72 hours is when you got showered by that flying bottle of what you really hope was Evian…Not. Gonna.Happen. Festival beauty needs to be practical, achievable and hard-working. Here’s how…

1 DO learn to use dry shampoo properly
Yes it seems like a festival no brainer but there's more to it than spraying it willy nilly until people mistake you for Marie Antoinette. Firstly if you’re dark-haired then pick one specifically for your hair colour, Batiste Dry Shampoo with a hint of colour is great and inexpensive enough for you to chuck it at the end when you can’t repack your rucksack. Try using it at night before you go to bed, it’ll have longer to soak up the oil and will give you much needed volume in the morning. And apply it outside, you’re unlikely to have enough room in your tent for the 10 inches away you should be spraying it from plus you’ll gas your poor tent-mates.

2 DON'T wear a flower crown
Screams basic louder than drinking a pumpkin spice latte whilst wearing purple yoga pants. Leave these funeral home wreaths where they belong. If you want a hair accessory then try hair rings, Ariana Grande uses hers to punk up her ponytail or copy Rita Ora and toughen a braid by looping them through sections. Jaden Smith favours Cartier Love Rings but our Faves are from Regal Rose (which don’t come with the Cartier 2K price tag. Most hairstylists will put these into a braid for you before you go, so just make sure it's a braid you're happy to keep in for a few days. Also looks GREAT with a bit of ear bling.

3 DO try a little sparkle
But beware it will get everywhere so if you're borrowing your brothers fishing tent be prepared for his anger when his waders get a sassy makeover. 2017’s take on sparkle though is thankfully a little less messy than last years glitter roots trend. Stick on crystal gems will be everywhere this festival season and take seconds to apply. Less 90’s Gwen Stefani individual stones, more pre-arranged larger pieces see blogger Sophie Hannah-Richardson for the ultimate inspiration. It's all about the placement so consider a session with a pro makeup artist to swot up, take photo's of what they do and then recreate this yourself. The Facebar London is excellent for on trend tips and the latest festival looks.

4 DON’T stress out about keeping up with your cleansing regime
We know that under normal circumstances face wipes are the devil. But this isn’t normal circumstances. With less chance of a working tap on site than getting your eight hours, a pack of wipes will become your cleanser, toner, shower, loo roll, handwash…we could go on. You’ll have neither the time, inclination or resources for full skincare so embrace the laziness, give your tired face a quick once over and just book in for a deep cleansing facial when you get home.

5 DO experiment with a temporary hair colour
From perky peach to dip dye denim temporary statement hair colour is one of 2017’s biggest festival trends and as you do all the prep before it’s totally no fuss on-site. Ask your hairdresser for a toner just before you go (it’s also great to team this with a blowdry if you’re doing it the day before or the morning of the festival, a salon blowdry means your hair is starting off at its best). Blondes can opt for pretty pastel tones whereas brunettes hair lend itself best to inky blues, dark reds or sea greens. Want even more temporary? Try a hair chalk or wash in wash out spray like Pixie Lott’s Paint range.
