After a lifelong pursuit of silky-smooth hair – and multiple fruitless attempts using various “frizz-free” hair masks – two months ago, I finally bit the bullet and headed down to the salon for a keratin treatment. Granted, the immediate results were a dream (and a compliment-magnet), but I was sceptical whether it would be worth the hefty price tag. These are my thoughts 9 weeks post-treatment.

1 Serious shine
When I say my hair was shiny after the keratin treatment, I mean shi-ny. Magpie level shiny. My hair is dry and frizzy (sigh) so tended to look a little dull. This made my hair look and feel much healthier and made my colour look a lot richer.

2 Less kinky
Naturally, my hair repels being straight – mere moments in a bobble (even those bougie silk scrunchies) and there’s a serious kink. After the treatment? I could wear my hair up in the messiest of messy buns, take it down and it would still be smooth.

3 My new routine
Before the treatment, there were two things I wanted to happen; to wear my hair down more, and to save time. While my hair isn’t 100% smooth after blow-drying, a quick run over with my straighteners and that’s it – until my next wash. Revolutionary.

4 Has it lasted?
Results can last up to 4-months depending on your hair type and your after-care. It’s been 9 weeks since I had a keratin treatment and my hair is beginning to frizz a little more (which isn’t helped by the cold weather and my affinity for bleach). It’s still super shiny and feels overall much healthier than before.
