Flame red hair is fashion’s favourite new colour

Published on 24 November 2016 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

Is it just us or is anyone else dying to try red hair? Rich, vibrant and flattering to the face, it’s no wonder the fashion industry has fallen in love with this mesmerising shade of the moment.  Splashed across magazine covers, advertising campaigns and epitomised by uber models Natalie Westling and Madison Stubbington, what we love most about the new red is how unapologetically  ‘coloured’ it looks.

Combining mouthwatering tones of burnt orange, copper, Tahitian red and mahogany, the aim is to create a hit of colour that perfectly suits your skin tone. Word to the wise, it’s highly unlikely than one solo shade will do this alone. Paler Karen Elson types can go a bold shade of carrot, while those with a warmer skin tone will pull off a fiery, cherry tone with ease. Dark skin glows with all tones of red but looks particularly striking against richer, deep shades of red.

Need more reasons to go red? Recently, actress Amy Adams admitted she hit the bottle in order to boost her career in Hollywood (Who knew she wasn’t a natural redhead!!) and you only have to look at the Thorne sisters, Bella and Dani, to see how damn good it looks on Instagram. Our personal inspiration is the NY based fashion editor Taylor Tomasi Hill whose trademark red hair is always on point.

FAQs

What shades of red hair suit different skin tones?

Paler skin tones can suit bold carrot shades, while warmer skin tones often look best with fiery cherry tones. Dark skin glows with any red but especially with richer, deep shades. Combining varied tones like burnt orange, copper, Tahitian red, and mahogany helps achieve a personalised look.

Why is red hair popular in the fashion industry right now?

Red hair is admired for looking rich, vibrant and flattering on many people. Models and celebrities, like Natalie Westling and Amy Adams, have contributed to its popularity by showcasing the bold, unapologetically coloured style in magazines, advertising, and on social media.

Can you achieve the perfect red shade with only one colour?

It’s highly unlikely that a single red shade will perfectly suit everyone. A customised mix of different tones, such as burnt orange, copper, Tahitian red and mahogany, gives the best and most flattering result depending on skin tone.

Who are some celebrities known for their striking red hair?

Notable personalities with striking red hair include models Natalie Westling and Madison Stubbington, as well as actress Amy Adams and NY-based fashion editor Taylor Tomasi Hill. Their bold red shades have become iconic in both fashion and on platforms like Instagram.
