The bridal bootcamp facial

29 April 2016 by Beth Ryan

Your wedding countdown is officially on – you’ve got a month to go and like every bride, you want your skin to look amazing. One small problem, you’ve totally neglected your complexion and now you need a fix, and fast. This is where A-list skincare specialist Chelsee Lewis comes in – just one session with her and you’ll be guaranteed to have wedding-ready skin, no matter how late you’ve left it. We put her Cyro Derm Radio Frequency Facial to the test (as if we’d recommend anything to our Treatwell brides without trying it first!) The results? Read on to find out more…

  • 1 Feel the heat

The first thing you need to know about this facial is that it’s very techy. No aromatherapy or facial massages here, and for good reason. When you’ve left it until the last minute, you need a treatment that will give you great results instantly. And this is it. She starts by applying a Vitamin C serum onto the face (a great antioxidant) followed by a nourishing facial oil, and then the heat therapy, or ‘radio frequency’ part of the facial begins. Using a heated wand that glides smoothly over the face and neck area (while Chelsee uses a machine to closely monitor the temperature of your skin), this process automatically boosts brightness and kick starts the repair process by pushing the Vitamin C deep into the skin. Designed to stimulate collagen renewal, which is the protein that plumps the skin and keeps it looking youthful, this stage of the treatment takes about half an hour and is deeply relaxing. You might even find yourself drifting off to sleep…

  • 2 Feel the freeze

The next stage of the treatment is the Cyro therapy. It’s the same method of application, though this time heat is replaced with an almost freezing wand that Chelsee glides in slow circular movements across the face and neck. It feels a bit like an icecube being rubbed across the skin, which is a soothing relief after half an hour of constant heat. This special tool works on all of the nerve endings in the skin, designed to tighten and stimulate circulation. ‘When we have good circulation, it brings oxygen and nutrients to the skin, resulting in a fresher, brighter complexion’, explained Chelsee. ‘Combining the heat with the Cyro therapy really helps to tighten and lift the skin, and you’ll keep feeling the effects for days after your treatment’. It carries on working long after the heat has stimulated the dermis (that’s the tissue beneath our skin that contains capillaries, nerve endings and sweat glands), making it a very gentle and non-invasive pre wedding treatment. And the best part? There’s no recovery time. Your skin feels tighter and looks immediately lifted and illuminated.

  • 3 And now for the aftercare

The facial is over, but it doesn’t stop there. There’s so many things you can do at home to keep your complexion on point for the big day. ‘I would recommend investing in a gentle exfoliator and to combine it with a hydrating mask at least a couple of times a week. The skin sheds every 21-28 days, so if you’re not exfoliating on a regular basis, you’re getting a buildup of dead skin and all of your products are just sitting on the surface of your face without penetrating the layers below.’ says Chelsee. The week before your wedding totally cut out (if you can) smoking, greasy foods and booze. Amp up your vitamin intake to include Vitamin C & E and drink lots and lots of water, it’s the simplest tip, but the best if you want to keep your skin hydrated.
