It’s fair to say that our social lives have taken a bit of a hit over the past two years, and getting glammed-up has definitely not been top of the to-do list. And whilst we’ve loved the freedom of skinimalism, staying-in, and living makeup free – we’re more than ready for a change.
Yep, we’re calling it: glam is back for party season, and we’re going all out. We’re talking festive manis, bouncy blow dries, and of course, some killer makeup looks. This year, we’re loving oh-so-extra eye looks (after all, face masks are still a thing). From rich jewel tones and vivid brights, to buckets of glitter and gemstone adornments – more is most definitely more this year.
Read on for all the inspo you need to try them yourself (or show them to your makeup artist – we can’t all be pros, after all) – your Christmas party won’t know what hit it.

1 Heavy liner
So, turns out the #reversecateye trend was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to heavy, dark eye makeup for 2021. Part grunge, part uber-glam – if you’re in the mood to let out your inner dark side à la Kourtney K and Megan Fox this year (or if you’re just a big fan of a dramatic smokey eye), this one’s for you.

2 Glitter & sparkle
Christmas and glitter – almost as perfect a pairing as cheese and wine. Go for a full lid of sparkles or just add a glitter accent. Will we be wearing glitter eyes with our sequined dresses and sparkly handbags this year? Absolutely. Again: more is more, if you ask us.

3 Vivid brights
Bright colours? In Winter? The thought might make you shudder, but if it’s good enough for catwalks of fashion weeks the world over (Versace & Balmain to name a couple), then it’s good enough for us. Think: yellow, fuchsia, lime green, red, electric blue, violet, orange – basically, as long as it’s bright – it works.

4 60s liner
70s bouncy blow dries, 90s brown lipstick, and 60s graphic eyeliner – hair & beauty throwbacks have been everywhere recently, and we’re loving it. Twiggy-esque mod liner is having a major moment right now (just ask Ariana Grande and Lily-Rose Depp). It adds a little something unique to a look, and also emphasizes the eyes – so we can totally see why.

5 Jewel tones
There’s something so rich and luxurious about jewel-toned eye makeup that makes it perfect for Christmas. Opt for deep shades of amethyst purple, emerald green, and ruby red – all of which scream expensive dah-ling.

6 Embellished everything
For those of us who air on the side of *extra* when it comes to Christmas hair and beauty, there’s nothing more fitting than an embellished eye look. Go for broke with a cluster of gemstones, or use them to recreate your fave eyeliner style. For the more subtle amongst us, adding a couple of gemstones to a more neutral eye makeup look is the perfect way to add some sparkle to your look without going all out.
