Spooky season is officially here!! If you’re anything like us (read: obsessed with Halloween), then you’ve spent the past few weeks frantically searching for the perfect costume. We’ve already broken down our fave nail looks, as well as some killer makeup options – now it’s time to talk about hair.
Okay, we know what you’re thinking – maybe you’re not totally up for changing your hair colour for just one night. We get it – whilst we’re so here for those hardcore Halloween fans who dare to adopt a whole new hair look solely for the big eve, that option just isn’t for everyone.
However – Autumn is the perfect time to change up your look – so if you’re considering a transformation anyway, why not kill two birds with one stone? These three hair colour trends are everywhere this season, and they promise to be cool long after Halloween has been and gone. So, if you think about it, you get an iconic Halloween costume and a killer new look for the rest of the year, all wrapped up in one. Plus, major brownie points for the dedication to your costume, of course. It’s a win-win situation, really. If all of this sounds tempting (of course it does), then here’s all you need to get inspired.

1 Auburn
We’ve already obsessed over how much we’re loving the many shades of autumnal auburn that are trending right now (if you’ve yet to be convinced, this might change your mind). For those rocking the red-head this October (or those considering the transformation), there are plenty of iconic babes to pay tribute to whilst making the most of your new do. There are some classic throwbacks – Spice Girls legend Geri Halliwell, of course, as well as the iconic Daphne from Scooby Doo, and high school hero Kim Possible- all trés nostalgic and fairly easy costumes to pull off. There are also some more recent pop culture references that we’re sure will be popular costume choices this year – Beth from the Queen’s Gambit and Wanda Maximoff from Wandavision to name a couple. Honestly, if the prospect of dressing as one of these iconic redheads doesn’t tempt you to take the plunge, we don’t know what will.

2 Split dye
Chic, edgy, cool – split dyes are everywhere at the minute, and they might be the perfect ‘Halloween-and-beyond’ transformation. They’re just spooky enough to land the starring role in your Halloween costume, yet cool enough to rock long after the big night. Billie Eilish’s legendary green and black split dye was a popular choice for Halloween 2019 (and honestly, we wouldn’t be mad at anyone who opted for it this year either – it’s pretty iconic). This year, though, the colour combo is giving us major Shego vibes from Kim Possible. With anything nostalgic and 00s being an automatic Halloween win this year – this would definitely be a killer costume choice. Of course, there’s also the classic black and white split dye – an endlessly cool look, and an essential addition to any good Cruella de Ville costume. Really, any colour combo works: add some red to complete your devil costume or some cute pastels for you fairy look – anything goes.

3 Vanilla blonde
Vanilla blonde was huge this summer – and the creamy, soft, warm tones mean that this shade transitions perfectly to a more cozy autumnal look. Plus, as pretty much the signature shade for every 90s ‘it’ girl – it’s perfect for some of our fave nostalgic Halloween costumes. Pair with a juicy tracksuit or silver chain mail dress, (or really any of her iconic looks – there are endless options to choose from) and you’ve got a perfect homage to the original party girl, Paris Hilton. Just make sure to bring along a dog – real or fake – in your handbag to complete the look. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde is another great option – get a killer blow-dry to complement your blonde locks, and grab your most Elle-like outfit (something pink, preferably). Carrying a couple of law books and frequently doing the ‘bend and snap’ is also a must.
