Ok, I’m just going to say it. Most of the hair trends you see on the catwalk will never actually translate into real life so don’t beat yourself up when that (crimped-pigtail look) doesn’t work for you. As a seasoned beauty director I have learnt that the secret is to take details of the trend, and apply it your everyday hair, rather than trying to pull off the whole look. This week I went backstage with Wella at the Tommy Hilfiger and Preen SS/18 shows to scope out the looks all of us can take inspiration from…

1 Sharp centre partings
As seen at: Tommy Hilfiger
A sharp centre parting is such an easy win when it comes to updating your hair instantly. But don’t worry about it being perfect, explained Session Hairstylist and Wella Global Ambassador Eugene Souleiman: ‘I don't think there is ever a perfect centre parting. I think the best thing to do to get a parting as close to centre is to brush your hair back and let it fall really where your head wants it to fall.’ Finish it off with some Wella Perfect Setting Spray and voila, you’re good to go.

2 Flat-to-fat ponytails
As seen at: Preen
It’s all about the texture spray here if you really want your pony to pack a punch. The stylists at the Preen show sectioned off the bottom layer of the model’s hair in a tight elastic, and sprayed it liberally with Wella’s hardworking Ocean Spritz before fastening the front layer loosely into place.

3 Braiding with an edge
As seen at: Tommy Hilfiger
Boxer braids were making the rounds on Tommy Hilfiger’s runway this week. ‘We're making it feel rawer, a little more contemporary, a little more urban,’ explained Eugene: ‘it's like when you're walking down the street and you just go, "she looks really cool". That's what I want the girls to look like.’ And lucky for us, these contemporary braids are totally achievable. Book yourself in for an appointment at your local braid bar, asap.

4 Good hat hair
As seen at: Tommy Hilfiger
With winter just around the corner, this is one look I will be buying into. Snuggling under black beanie hats, Tommy Hilfiger’s models showed us exactly how to pull off hat hair. Smooth, with just a touch of movement, the look was achieved with a healthy dose of Wella’s Sugar Lift to keep the layers in place.

5 Just stepped out of the shower
As seen at: Preen
Not got time to wait around for that blow dry after your cut and colour? Don’t worry about it! Next season embracing the shower-fresh wet look is where it’s at. You might not want to go as extreme as the models on the Preen runway but you can definitely take a tip from backstage where Eugene twisted Wella’s Dynamic Fix Spray into just washed hair and worked it through with his fingers.
