When it comes to switching off from the day job, it often feels like we just start to chill on Sunday afternoon. From hunching over our desk, to finding space for our sandwich in the communal fridge, it’s a hard ol’ slog in the working world. We asked Jarek Zybowski (owner of London Pro Massage), for a little advice on the treatments that help to ease tension in the body (and mind). These are the four massage types suggested by an expert, so you can refresh on your lunch break – or even before your shift starts.

1 Deep tissue massage
This one reaches the deepest layer of muscles, fascia (that’s the connective tissue around the joints), and tendons. Jarek explains that ‘the goal is to break down adhesions, which cause pain, inflammation, and limit muscle motion’.
Benefits: alleviates pain, reduces muscle tension, increases mobility

2 Indian head massage
This traditional form of massage has been practised in India for over 1,000 years. Nowadays, the treatment incorporates the upper back, shoulders, neck, arms, and even face to rebalance the ‘energy centre’ in the body. It can ‘provide instant relief from tension and promote high levels of alertness and concentration’, says Jarek.
Benefits: relaxation of the whole body, removing toxins, stimulating the lymphatic system, helps to ease insomnia

3 Back, neck and shoulder massage
This one’s seriously swift (the massage takes around 15-30 minutes), so it’s good for slotting into your lunch break. Concentrating on these areas will help to relieve tension caused by poor posture – like hours spent at your desk in a sedentary job. Jarek explains that ‘your therapist will tailor your session – applying appropriate pressure and triggering specific ‘tighter’ areas to relieve pain’.
Benefits: Improved blood circulation, post-exercise relief, easing stress and tension in these tight areas

4 Morning boost massage
This massage is unique to London PRO Massage, and is the perfect partner to wake you up pre-work. Specific techniques, tempo and essential oils are used to balance equilibrium within the body, stimulate, rejuvenate, energise and improve alertness. You can head for the Morning Boost before hitting the office. That’s our kind of workday.
