Gather round – get close, real close – now shout it from the heavens, Ella-Eyre-style, because we just got paid. Like time passing on a Tuesday afternoon, or waiting for the tour at the end of Grand Designs, January has moved painfully slowly. It’s been filled with packed lunches, turning down social events, and balaclavas (for the cold, obviously). So, now that the funds have arrived, I’m going for it – americano, not filter; wine, not water; and beauty treatments, by the bucketload. Here are the treatments to invest in, this payday.

1 Powder dip nails
Average cost: £35
This one’s considered the ‘healthy’ alternative to gel nails. Otherwise known as ‘SNS’ (Signature Nails System), the manicure works by dipping your (base-coated only) nails in a finely-milled powder, packed with nutrients like Vitamin A,E and D. Nails are tapped to remove excess, and the process repeats. This powder is the colour – plot twist – there’s no polish involved. Expect your mani to last longer than gel or shellac, and your nails to be healthier once it’s removed.

2 Lash lift
Average cost: £40
Like a perm for your lashes, a lift uses a curling solution for a ‘fuller’ appearance. The process takes around an hour and will last up to eight weeks, but for a real lash makeover, try LVL. During the treatment, lashes are curled against a ‘curling shield’ and coated in a bonding gel, then a lifting balm, which sits in place for around 15 minutes. A volumising fix follows, then the lashes are tinted. If your eyelashes are very fair, you’ll probably prefer this to a simple lift for that proper transformative effect.

3 Collagen wave facial
Average cost: £50
Collagen wave treatments work by emitting ultrasonic and radio waves into the skin. This mild heating effect causes deep collagen structures to immediately tighten. The result is improved elasticity of existing collagen, and encouraged production of new collagen. Think smoother surface/texture of skin, and a ‘tighter’ appearance. The collagen wave facial is considered a non-surgical face lift (there are no needles or botox involved), and the results show immediately.

4 Microblading
Average cost: £200
Ever-growing in popularity, microblading is a way to sculpt (or form) brows using a semi-permanent tattooing technique. With super-fine needles (like, 0.3mm small), the technique creates thin, hair-like strokes with pigment, for a fuller look. The effects should last up to 24 months, depending on your skin type, though you’ll need to head back for a top up after 6-8 weeks weeks.

5 Permanent hair removal
Average cost: £200+ whole body (per session)
If you’re into hair-removal, you’ve no-doubt considered the permanent solution: electrolysis. While light-based methods like IPL and laser target the hair pigment melanin, electrolysis zaps directly into each follicle, it’s FDA-confirmed as ‘permanent’ and is effective on all hair types. It can take anything from 15 to 30 sessions to get each and every hair. And it works all over the body.
